Acoustic
Question:
>Can anyone recommend an acoustic bass guitar? I don’t mean one of those >over-sized-acoustic-guitar jobs, but either solid or semi-acc with a piezo >p/u.
I’ve tried various ones. I liked the Washburn fretless I had and the Ovation Celebrity was pretty good. However I got a real steal at A Guitar Center opening here in the Northeast about a year ago for 300.00 yes 300.00 bucks, it lists for 2400.00 and Ovation did a promo with GC and gave them six of theem to give away. It’s a Cherry colored Ovation Viper Bass. Very slim with great electronics. You won’t get the deal I did unless they have another promo. But if have the cake that’s the acoustic bass to get. It’s has balls and a round silky bottom. I get a lot of compliments from other bass players wjen I’m out gigging. They can’t believe how good it sounds. Good luck!

: I’m really pleased with my Carvin AC50F semi-acoustic fretless. It has a : piezo pickup under the bridge, and the strings are these LaBella black : tape-wound nylon things, so it’s got a real smooth, acoustic-style tone. : Especially when you roll back the tone controls. : Highly recommended! Agree! I don’t know how hard it is to get one in the Yoo Kay, but theyye are killer! I’ve got one too. (5 string fretless) I love it. The B string sort of sucks so I strung mine with a high C. You can solo your ass off with a perfect blues sound. Check em out, if you can.:w — SPAM-GUARD! Remove "user.", if present, from address to email me.

Thanks to all for some very interesting advice. I’ve not checked the NG for a few days and think I may have missed some messages, but still plenty to check out. I should have said I’m in the UK, BTW. thanx again. JR – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

I’ve been on the same quest and here is my data: The Rob Allen MB2 fretless on a good amp and cab sounds the closest to acoustic. The Rick Turner Renaissance fretless on a good amp and cab is in second place. The Zon Sonus fretless with the optical pickups, when setup with the right amp and cab was a distant 3rd place. I was looking for a Zeta Educator to try but never found one. Jay

Everyone must be thinking about acoustic basses lately, there have been a bunch of posts on that topic in the last couple of weeks. I just bought an Ibanez AE-45 after trying the Fender, Guild and Ibanez models. Ibanez had the best pickups and pre-amp, and was the least expensive of the bunch, to boot. Never tried the Washburn or Carvins, but they’re pretty highly regarded, apparently. Give the Ibanez a try.

Can anyone recommend an acoustic bass guitar? I don’t mean one of those over-sized-acoustic-guitar jobs, but either solid or semi-acc with a piezo p/u. I tried a Godin once but was disappointed (unless that was the amp’s fault). I’m really after something as close to a double bass as you can get without getting the real thing. And are there any that have a magnetic p/u as well as an acoustic, for best of both worlds? (I have a Precision already, but it would handy not to have to take two guitars to gigs.) JR
