Advice on Peavey Bass amp Please
Question:
(The OP asked): > I dont know what this amp is worth or what I will get for it. > The Amp and head are in reasonably good condition. > They say maybe 125.00 at the Music Store
(Todd H. replied): >$125 for the head and cab? They’re playing you for a sucker.
If you can find a buyer you are usually better off to sell your used stuff yourself as far as max return $$$ goes. But selling possibly involves posting/paying for For Sale ads, having strangers come to your door, or listing on seller service and having to ship to and get payment from a remote location. Selling on consignment in a music store (or other) is an option, as is a yard sale (they don’t expect to come inside). A retail location has to pay the bills (rent, AC/heat/light, hired help, advertising); in order to do so they must make a profit on everything they take in *and* sell, so on trade-ins you will generally pay "retail" for the item you want, and get a low price on what you want to trade in. Or eventually the doors close. Maybe the music store owner in question has doubts he will be able to sell your trade-in gear for much more than he’s offering, given that he knows something about the local market. Excuse long but playing devil’s advocate to some extent, because another factor is possibly establishing a beneficial relationship with this dealer– that is, beneficial to both of you. Mr. OP: As Todd suggested, look up the prices of your stuff on the Harmony link generously provided, then you have some idea of what to ask if selling outright, or a possible bargaining position with the dealer (don’t expect him or anyone else to genuflect at the mention of Harmony Central or Ebay listing prices). We all get emotional about this stuff, but "it’s only money" and "business". IOW, a low offer is not a personal insult. Happy hunting. "Did I leave anything out?"

Put the stuff on eBay. State in the ad that you will have it professionally packed and shipped by Mailboxes etc./UPS store or whatever and the buyer will pay all shipping expenses, and sell it for market value. The store is about making money on both ends of the transaction at your expense. Your job is to get as much as possible. www.harmony-central.com is also a great place to list used gear for free. eBay gets by far the most traffic. Some bass player will be really happy to get this amp. I believe it will bring more than $125.00 AND make someone happy. Just get the cash before the ship, USPS money orders are great and hard to scam out on. Kirk

Powerful reliable things the mark 3’s… and that 1516 cabinet was quite nice in its day. > My roomate moved out,.. and gave them to me along w/ a bass guitar.
Nice. > I am thinking of trading this in for a Crate amp at a local music > store. > The Crate is a Crate Taxi TX30 > I dont know what this amp is worth or what I will get for it. > The Amp and head are in reasonably good condition. > They say maybe 125.00 at the Music Store
$125 for the head and cab? They’re playing you for a sucker. Take a look at the harmony central reviews and used prices paid (and keep in mind the mark3 has several different versions based on age, hence prices all over the map): http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Peavey/1516_Bass_Cabinet-0… http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Peavey/Mark_III_Bass_Head-… > I play acoustic guitar and blues harmonica. > Is this a good move? Well, an acoustic guitarist and harp player has no need for a 1×15+2×8 bass cabinet, that’s for sure. But that Taxi isn’t going to be useful at all for bass. What are you doing with the bass guitar itself?
