Ampeg cabinet question

A friend of mine used to use the Ampeg folded horn enclosure with the 15" driver. It was most impressive. I never heard the Ampeg folded horn with an 18" driver. My Acoustic 301 enclosure, folded horn with a Vega 18" driver sounded a little bit deeper. However, I’m not sure if that was the difference in cabinets so much as just the different tone settings we used and the differences in our bass guitars. His set up had a very good sound. Mine sounded a little tighter. Again, it could have been other factors making the difference in sound. While they were a little different from each other, both were pro quality cabinets. Ed Cregger

This is a roundabout answer to your question. I owned the PR410HLF / PR15H setup you describe. The 15 was not that great, although it DID fill in where the 410 was lacking. It just wasn’t as powerful as I had hoped it would be. By that, I mean that the bottom end still seemed hollow. I have since moved into Eden gear. I purchased an Eden 18" to complement the Eden 4X10". It is far and away a better addition than the 15" was in the Ampeg setup. I would recommend you go with the 18"
