Epiphone El Capitan

Any opinions? I’m looking for a good and affordable accoustic bass guitar an went through quite a few: godin, ibanez, takamine, fender, ovation, etc.. Philippe

I’m happy with my 5 string acoustic from Michael Kelly.  They had excellent customer service, too.  It was strung originally as a BEADG, but the B was worthless.  It is much better strung as a EADGC.

The Epiphone is one of the loudest, acoustically, of all the bass acoustic guitars – and certainly the loudest in its price range. It is also very big and, like all bass acoustics, is not loud enough to play along with anything louder than a thinline acoustic guitar – but you knew that anyway.   I have a 5 string El Capitan which I’m very happy with, the only thing mine lacks is a notch filter – the new ones include one of these.  It sounds a lot better (and louder) to my ears with bronze bass acoustic guitar strings on (it comes with steel strings). If you intend to play it a lot live I’d probably suggest getting something thinner like the Godin – you’ll need to amplify any of them for live work and the El Capitan is so big it becomes uncomfortable after a few songs. — Derek — Many Hands   – Trans Cultural Music from Aotearoa/New Zealand http://www.manyhands.co.nz/
