I wanted one of those too to be able to learn songs and use it as a headphone amp in hotel rooms etc… But one thing that puts me down is the fact that you have only 3 or 4 slower positions, like 8%, 16%, 50%. Usually when I’m learning a song with Amazing slowdowner, I like to start with 30% stretch, then up to 20 and 10. Alesis will have  a unit designed for guitar that apparently has a rotary slow down control so you can adjust it to anywhere you want. I’m curious too as to how this units performance compares to AS. Nope, sorry, can’t do a comparison. But I too would be interested in the results of such a comparison. The BT1 slowed-down sound isn’t *that* bad. It’s ok for transcribing, esp. at the higher slowed-down speeds. But I wouldn’t sit down and listen to a CD in slowed-down mode. The Korg Pandora is another practice tool with a slow-down (feature), I think. But no CD player. But it does have canned drum tracks.

I am really new to bass playing and was wondering if anyone had any reviews of this item. The official name of it is-  Tascam CD-BT1 CD Bass Guitar Trainer. Thanks for your help…James

I really love — and hate — mine. Love it because it does so much in learning songs because I do a lot of covers when I freelance. Hate it because I can hear every little mistake I make when learning those songs!!! Just kidding — I wouldn’t go anywhere without it. To be able to plug any bass in and jam along with Jaco, Cream, Beatles and all the other bands is a trip. I also like the other features on it like the footswitch, the effects like compression and distortion, , the EQ, and looping! Best purchase I’ve ever made…under $150 ;)

I have one. I like it and use it. I REALLY wish it had a metronome. It really is just a practice tool. I use it mainly for playing along with CD’s to learn songs, esp. by looping sections of a song. Using the EQ, you can set your amp flat, get a normal sound from the CD, and a good bass sound. I’ve used the slow-down capability. It can be useful, but it does introduce "artifacts" – the sound is bad. I’ve used the pitch adjust to play along with out-of-tune CD’s. Works well, once you get it adjusted to that particular CD. The Boost/Cut the CD bass feature is useful. But one level of the boost is useless – it’s just way too much. The built-in effects work, but they’re not very adjustable. Many of them have just one tweak-able (un-named) parameter, along with a level and mix against a variable delay. I only used mine with batteries once – they didn’t seem to last. When the batteries are too low, the unit will start up when you turn it on, and then shut itself off with no indication of what went wrong. And the manuals says DON’T switch between adaptor and battery while the unit’s on. The "user interface" is not really intuitive. (Ex. The left arrow does not do the opposite of the right arrow.) My BT1 has fallen two feet to the floor a couple of times, and survived – I pulled it off a table using the instrument cord. Now I have a non- slip mat underneath. The optional foot pedal is useful for skipping back to a cue point on a CD, but way too expensive from Tascam, I think. Look for a compatible one somewhere else.

If you can, can you compare that feature to any other gear with the same function?  Amazing Slowdowner software dose this, and I like it enough.   I want one of these units, but fear it won’t be anywhere as nice as ASD. —    O> /()    ^^                                                      Slidell, LA
