I don’t know how you define,"low guitar". It’s more a matter of scale length and tuned pitch. For example, you can re-string and drop tune a standard scaled guitar, and that is exactly what it is. It doesn’t make it a baritone guitar or a bass guitar.  The scale didn’t chance. Traditionally, a baritone guitar has a scale over standard guitar scales but less than a 30 inch scale.  Which is ususlly tuned to "A" or "B" tuning. For example,…  http://www.samedaymusic.com/product–FEN259400 Then, there is the Fender bass VI.  Which is REALLY a bass.  The low strings are tuned to the same pitch as a four string standard bass. Then, for example, there are those who are clue less, can’t read what is on the headstock, http://timeelect.com/VI-2.jpg and,….. don’t know what the hell they are talking about.  Such as,…. http://guitargeek.com/gearview/703/ The most amazing thing about the Fender Bass VI, is it’s tonal range on the right amp system. You would not believe what I’m getting from it with both my data bass and Super Reverb hooked up on it. There is nothing I can’t do. When I get some free time, I’ll record some of the crazy stuff I’ve been doing. You guitar guys won’t want me in a band you all.   One guitar, a drummer, and a mad man on one of those Fender Bass VI’s more than enough. <thinking> Here’s what I found out playing one of those bass VI’s in rock setting at the jam clubs. When playing in a group setting, where today’s convention of a rock band consist prvails, you can not step out of the bass player’s role in the band.  If you do, you WILL piss ‘em off big time. shit, taking their thunder. Very few think you’re cool with it. Then, when I get in a group setting with a guitar player AND a bass player.  You just may as well GO HOME!!!!! It’s just how it is, when the agenda is something other than the music. After a while, you begin to feel like you are an outcast. For the guys who have been following that page, you will notice, that out of no choice, I’ve had to gravitate out of the rock setting just to be accepted musically by musicians who play for the music.  Yeah, I’m doing the coffee house gig now. I’m a hard-core funk, R&B, rocker and fusion guy. I’ve been trying to find the guys in my area who can handle that kind of over the edge music I’ve go in my head.  It ain’t easy finding guys with the headset and chops for that kind of music. I just like my funk, so funked up, it hard to keep is straight in your head, but moves you bod. I like my R&B, driving the freight train old school. I like my rock on steroids, and OUT THERE. I like my jazz, tight and hard, for the fusion ride of your life. When I play, I want to work up a real sweat, with the band I’m playing with. So far, my arm pits ain’t damp yet. I just come from a different time, when the music you played, set the house on fire. Today, bands have to resort to those some cheap ass pyrotechnics to fire up the house. Take a freaking chance, and go for it the next time you play with the guys. And, have FUN breaking the rules set by the La Dee Dah musical convention huggers.
