Good investment …
Question:
Hi All, Just a quick note from a proud Dad re his 14 year old daughter .. She very recently started playing what was supposed to be *my* Squier P Bass after a few lessons on a classical guitar. She seems to like the bass and I’m currently fine tuning the practice amp thing (yes .. still)
A couple of weeks ago she was asked to join a band (playing bass) sorta being formed out of her school and she agreed. They have had a couple of 20 min sessions at school so far (today she took her own cable in as the school only had one lead for the two guitars?) and they played a couple of tracks they had been working on. After their little rehearsal a guy who she didn’t know was there and is currently playing in a very well respected [1] long standing (year 11) school band came up to her and said ‘you are good .. could you play something else for me please?’. She blushed then did a bit of something else and he then said "actually you are very good .. great timing and feel .." "Yeah right" was her reply
She just happened to mention this briefly to my Missus (who just told me) tonight when she popped down from her room to grab her dinner .. (about the only time we see her these days … "I’m hungry and "Daaaaad, can you run us to … "). We know she’s up there though .. bass vibrations throughout the house ..
I think it was good of one of her peers to make the effort to pass on his views like that .. I *hope* it will help her with her confidence? Highest music rating of any student in her school and when you suggest she does something you just get the ‘but I’m crap .. ‘ ? All the best and thanks to all for the help / advice offered so far .. T i m <mildly chuffed Dad> [1] This band appeared at a variety type event at the school recently and got a standing ovation!

Hey Tim! That’s great! Wonder if she wants to play thrash and join my nephew’s band. Apparently they have taken my words seriously and are auditioning a couple of guys next week Grunt — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

Hmm .. she might .. not sure she’d have much skin left on her fingers by your accounts of the action (and can I afford all the plectrum’s? (plectri?)) Apparently they have taken my words seriously and are >auditioning a couple of guys next week
Band .. "What do we do now .. we can’t carry on without a bass player" Grunt .. "Old I am .. but feel the thrash I do .. come others after me there will .. " Band .. "Ok master Grunt .. we will try to look for another" Grunt .. "<sigh> Do or do not .. there is no try … " Band .. "But auditioining frightens us!" Grunt .. "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to t h r a s h i n g … " T i m
Looking forward to the the delivery tomorrow of what seems to be the only Fender Rumble 25 Bass in the country .. loud / small enough for her bedroom, cheap but with plenty of flexibility (headphone, CD in, line out, effects loop, 10" speaker ..) .. in theory .. ?

<Tim’s wild and uncontrolled imagination snipped – ouch!> LOL – very good …. you’ve even got my somewhat eccentric Tolkeinesque speach patterns there! It was just a thought …. I suggested that with the relative rarity of bassmen, that they could – in the interests of sexual equality- consider a bass girlie (that’s bass not base). If they are worried about credibility, well girl bass players are becoming much more accepted and respected nowadays… and , also, the’ve already blown their image having had me play for them! Had a phone call from my nephew last night – we made a profit on Saturday (more than the 50p I thought we’d make) and they’ve just donated the entire nearly
