Faking It!!!
Question:
>> something like this somewhere. ie. practising rhythmic >> improvisation. It might help you get some feel for rhythm or it >> might not. > Thanks, I have very much feel for the rhythm, > Sorry, I didn’t mean to question that.
I meant that practising > rhythm stuff might help you with improvisation. It’s not quite as easy > to keep the rhythm going if you’re playing a solo, at least not to me. > I think I’m getting better at it though…
I figured that
) I will have to dig out the metronome tonight… And I need to develop a bit of speed for fast shuffles… fast shuffles played bad are the worst! S.

Hmm I think I’ve always been fascinated by the double bass… It wasn’t the size of the instrument, it was the sound. I decided I want to begin playing the double bass when I still was a guitarist, and only occasionally played the bass guitar at music lessons at school. I even got my first electric bass only after I had started my URB studies. > It seems that you are like me a ’stand alone’ bass player. I think my geetar player wouldn’t mind… I can’t really understand what’s wrong with trying something new. (hmm otoh, I might understand it if someone thought making things really bass-centric would be a bit self-indulgent, or something) > Well, you’re alone, you can. Then, you play along with CD’s, and you > always end up playing with a BassMaster’s CD (Stu Hamm, Marcus > Miller, Randy Coven, Mark King, TM Stevens, whatever…), trying to > figure out how the f*ck does he do that.
I rarely play along with CDs (because I think it would just turn into a big mess) but… well, of course I do like it when there’s a good bassist. I dunno if I’ve got any really bass-oriented records. In the beginning I did get Marcus Miller’s M^2 and only recently I bought Trey Gunn’s "Untune the sky"… And one of my friends recommended Primus to me (but later he told it was a joke)… though I usually don’t care for slap bass, I do like Claypool. Actually, now that I think of it, I do play a lot of tapping stuff, which definitely comes from listening to Tony Levin. I do it primarily on the guitar, since I play it much more often than the bass (my basses are in a different room), and my only electric bass at the moment is fretless. I suck at doing anything polyphonic (I so wish I had played the piano when I was a kid) so I mostly just riff around with the left hand and play percussion stuff with the right hand… > And Yes, I DO slap on Paranoid.
Yeah and I played "Smells like teen spirit" (a silly tune but it’s a great riff, in a way) on the URB today… if I could play something even that fast, I’d have quite decent pizz chops, I think. but I can’t. it all turns into a mess with the fast stuff. — ( -
