swr baby baby blue

Question:

> Anyone tried this new 1×10 combo?? >     Bri

Haven’t seen one yet. As I own two older Baby Blues, I’m curious. I don’t know if I like the piezo tweeter idea, the original had a cone tweeter (more of a midrange) that gives a smoother high end than any piezo I’ve ever heard. —                                                    Brian Rost                                                   Stargen, Inc.

I have an old baby blue head (#136 is marked on the circuit board if I remember correctly) which is installed into a flight case,  rather than being a combo. Hope the versatility of this head has not been lost in its combo version. I think it is great, I wish all my amps had semi-parametric EQ. Very versatile outputs for studio situations, the aural enhancer control can work quite well too. Don’t know about the quality of the speakers in the combo. Believe the speakers are 2×8 – might be wrong – which suggests to me that a fat bottom end will be difficult to produce. I run my head into a 1×15 for most applications, enough on the backline and if I need to I can DI into the board for a little extra. I play in a power trio and don’t usually have to worry about volume (but then again I work with a guitar player who listens and doesn’t try to overpower the rhythm section, he works with it !!! I play a Jackson – maple bolt-on neck, installed EMG PJ pickups, rotosound roundwounds. Its an aggressive sounding rock bass which I like, it’s not the bass for a soul sound but I have an old Ibanez blazer (P copy) rusting in the corner which can be coaxed into sounding quite mellow or funky sometimes. IMO the baby blue does not have a big personality that it stamps onto your sound – it allows the sound of your bass guitar to come through. If you have a good bass (subjective I know) the SWR will really eq that sound quite nicely… if your bass sounds like sh*t then the SWR will not add much to your tone. Cheers,         Chris
