Women don't play bass!

Question:

> If she doesn’t, she sucks.  Just the same for men.

Come again ????? Haha! Couldn’t resist. Sorry. Actually, as far as I know, the guy-to-gal ratio is a bit in favor of the guys for any instrument. That’s what my CD collection suggests anyways. Would that sort of answer your question?                   _   __ _  __  _  __| | _ __  ___                / _` ||  | |/ _` || `__)| __)   |          Andre Girard          |

 Pointless and stupid.  I think that statement he made "is crap" and  totally undermines his intentions.  There will always be these "men  are better players/women are better players" pissfights, which is good.  I’d be scared if one day men and women understood each other.  But I  can’t ignore that the "female bassist" thing seems to be a fad lately,  as reflected here in these postings as such mindless things as "who’s  your favorite female bassist".  Who really cares?  If she kicks ass,  she kicks ass.  If she doesn’t, she sucks.  Just the same for men.  And keeping in mind that what I consider good bass playing may be totally  different than what someone else thinks, that just varies things that  much more. Still, I’d have to say that bass is a popular instrument for women.  I can think of more women bass players offhand then women drummers, guitarists, or keyboard players.  Kim Deal, Kim Gordon, Tina Weymouth, J Napolitano, M’shell N’dgeocello (however you spell her name), and lots and lots of others. Uh, I don’t think it has much of anything to do with gender.  Your girlfriend might be a great bass player, but that doesn’t mean females in general are any better.  This is a pretty pointless argument. –Chris Wage http://www.telalink.net/~cwage

   I think that all of the above is crap! There are Hundreds of female Bassist out there and plenty of famous ones. I also think that female bassists are more in tune with the way bass guitar should sound, I say this because the bassist in our band is female and she plays bass in a way that makes me cry ( ‘cos I cant make it sound like that) Don’t get me wrong I cam play bass as good as the next man/woman but the way she feels for the harmonics is astounding ( Maybe I should add that she my girlfriend and I would say anything like that) but women/girls/ladies can play bass and sometimes better.  I feel better getting that of my chest.  Ta. ‘n’ later, Al.

Well, sir, perhaps you haven’t searched far enough.  Sean Yesult is not just another pretty face on the cover of White Zombie CD’s.  She is the bassist, and a darn good one. What kind of music do you listen to?   Hey kiddies! Check out my homepage at "http://www.u.arizona.edu/~ttelles" La Sota de Espadas Smash forehead on keyboard to continue…..

awkwardness of the bass guitar. Especially the cheap crap they try to push as ‘entry level’. My wife expressed an interest in the bass a few years back but complained that the strings were too far from the frets, the neck was hard to hold, and when she was sitting, the upper horn kind of smashed her boob a little. I bought her a used Ibanez, lowered the action and re-rasped the upper wing and voila! She was playing major scales that day.  Maybe someday a bass designed for women will be accessible and affordable, but judging by the availability of lefty stuff, it would take some lobbying, and I don’t hear any.
