Active Electronics
Question:
Unplug the bass whenever you are not using it. The batteries are used whenever the cable is plugged into the bass, whether the other end is plugged in or not. bj – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hi! >I use a Yamaha BBG4S bass guitar. Active makes more of a "piano" sound. I don’t like my Yamaha Pre amp. I think that the bass boost control interferes with the volume too much. — Bass players do it with their fingers! – www.Meggastuf.freeserve.co.uk

A battery lasts for months and months in my Yamaha RBX760A….the key is to unplug the bass when you’re not playing it! Plugging the cable into the jack is what turns the battery on, as long as the cable is plugged in the battery will slowly be drained. Also, use good alkaline batteries. Rechargeables don’t have enough power to last, and I’ve noticed when the battery voltage starts to drop, the tone gets crappy. Altho usually I leave the tone controls flat, sometimes it’s nice to have the option of giving a little bass or treble boost , so that’s the theoretical advantage of an active circuit.
