First bass?..FTP tabs?

Question:

Hi all,         I just decided to pick up bass guitar as something to do over summer holidays.As I don’t read any bass guitar mags,don’t have any books and don’t have the money to go to a music store…could someone suggest what would sort of bass I would be looking for to learn on.No brand names please,just give me the facts..         I also heard off another guy at uni that you can get bass tabs through ftp.HELP! I have no idea how to get them.Will someone reply.         Also,in one of the articles,I heard that this newsgroup might be closing down.Bummer!I actually liked reading this.. Dan Pearse

        Well yes, this group is closing down, but, even better, it is being replaced by REC.MUSIC.MAKERS.BASS         Why? you ask.  Well, bass and guitar have finally left the alt. hierarchy so that even more people can read the material.  Some people cannot get the unmoderated newsgroups, this way, everyone(almost) will have access to it.  HHHEEAAAAYYY!!!                                         Webb |  (   `–’  .-’         ___    |  Samson GHS   | Webb Pickersgill        |
